We are the neighbourhood church built on Jesus Christ

Our mission is to deepen our connection in the local community and make disciples.

A crowd of people attending a worship service or concert in a dimly lit auditorium. The congregation is standing, facing a stage where musicians and singers are performing. The stage has a large screen displaying text and stage lights.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
— Jesus, Matthew 28:19-20

We are…

We are part of a gathering of local churches and ministries from around Australia serving together under the umbrella of the Wesleyan Methodist Church of Australia.

Our Story

In 1995, Pastor Troy Beer had a vision to plant a Wesleyan Methodist Church for the future community of North Lakes. At the time the area was still pine forest, and Troy, along with his friend Lex Akers, would pray over the land where Axis would one day stand.

In 1999, the church—then called Riverside Community Church—formed its first gatherings in lounge rooms before launching its first public service in a community hall in Kallangur on 14 March, with Troy as Lead Pastor and Lex as Assistant Pastor. As the church grew, it moved through several locations, including a farm shed in Griffin, a shopping centre and later a gymnasium in Lawnton, all while holding onto the vision of eventually establishing a home in North Lakes.

That vision became reality in 2011, when the church secured land on Discovery Drive—the only site designated for a church in North Lakes—and opened its permanent building, dedicated to the Glory of God.

In 2012, following a four-year break from pastoral ministry, Pastor Troy returned to lead the church, which was relaunched as Axis Church on 4 November. It’s based on the scripture of Galatians 2:20 where Christ is the centre of our lives, and everything we do revolves around him. Following Troy’s leadership, Pastor Joel Heron served for two years, before Pastor Jono Schroder became Lead Pastor in 2020.

Since then, Axis has continued to build on its foundation. In 2021, a vision was set to become the neighbourhood church of North Lakes and in 2024, a major expansion of our ministry space was completed to support our growing midweek ministries and fulfil our calling to the local community.

Today, Axis stands as a church centred on Jesus Christ, committed to our calling in the heart of North Lakes.
